Have you seen coconut tree divas? I have.

Pound cakes are called so because it requires a pound of each essential ingredients to make them (adapted from the cookbook Sab gave me for my birthday). Half and half refers to liquid food made of an equal-parts of two substances and in this case it is a picture occupied by half sky, half land.

How I wish time would stop working over in Singapore too. Just when I thought I was having fun not doing anything, my mother reminded me about university applications… portfolios… admission requirements… troublesome, heavy matters.

Where do you want to go now?

My auntie’s boyfriend by the way is a Caucasian who is visiting Singapore for the first time. My Dad, speaking Chinese and dialects all his life is putting his limited vocabulary of English to attempt to entertain the “angmo”. It was hilarious. Because I love and respect my Dad, I will not publicly humiliate his English on the world wide web.

Except for how he calls “lime juice”, “lame juice”. HAHA!

But because my Dad cannot communicate efficiently nor accurately in English, there are certain Chinese customs he cannot put across correctly. Therefore the way I see it, Uncle Bill probably thinks of Singapore as:

1) Eating the most on the table will prove your status as Alpha male.
2) It is improper for anyone to feed their guests less than to the point of throwing up.
3) “Man” cannot drink sugared drinks; if you take it, you’re not “man”.
4) “Man” only drinks draft beer.
5) Chinese people can stay miraculously thin even though they binge on starchy food everyday. (This privilege is reserved only for people like my Dad)
6) We call “lime juice” “lame juice’.

That was where we decided it was too far.

My auntie returned from America and we brought her and her new boyfriend to Chinatown- the Chinatown in a Chinese country where ironically, has more visiting Caucasians than China Chinese people any day. While in Chinatown, we went to the Temple of Sacred Buddha Tooth Relic and I have to say I am amused and horrified at how commercialized the temple was, as though religion was business itself.

My auntie (Christian) bought a s$10 lantern just for the fun of it and I guess it was the moment when the monk, in the midst of a prayer, threw a chain of beads over her head and tangled her hair with it, that I thought was the most comical moment; Or it could have been the moment when he stopped chanting and fought my auntie in a little game of tug-o-war with hair and beads. It might also have been the moment I laid eyes on the receipt given to my auntie when she lit the lantern.

I loved the receipt and I still have it by me. What amuses me is not the fact that a religion that promotes the immunity to the material world is actually giving receipts when they give a blessing (10 Singapore dollars by the way), it was what they put on the receipt:

“(Serviced by)Attended by: Guanying”

HAHA!

My auntie is so put at ease now that she knows she can get a refund when she meets Guanying.

Scary in the midst of day.

When I came home with these pictures, the first thing i did was to check all its corners for ghostly faces or any recgonisable detached human body parts.

Thank goodness I found none. But if you do (touch wood), please let me know.

Well, to go with the theme of this picture which is undecided, “Wondrous Abandonment” or “Holy crap! Scary place!”, I would like to share a story my friend told us which happened to someone he knew from the army (Like how old scary stories go, its always from a friend of a friend).

Lets name our male lead Ah Huat (rubbed off from Chinese New Year). So Ah Huat’s army/team/company/whatever (I am clueless about these army stuff) was training in Pulau Tekkong. One unfateful night, Ah Huat woke up in the middle of a sleep by the urge to pee. He ventured out on his own to the toilet. When he was done and ready to head back, in his blurry sleepy conscience, he got lost for about 5 minutes in the midst of forest. When he got back to camp and woke up the next morning, his bunk mates asked him the wildest thing.

“Where have you been these past 2 days?!”

Apparently when he was lost for that 5 minutes, he was actually gone for 2 days and they even sent a search party and filed a report during that time.

...from the strict order of life.

I’m sick. And the doughnuts turned out to be nowhere near what the title promised it would be. So i have 40 over lousy doughnuts left rotting in my house. This sucks.
